I rode in the snow today. Just not at the mountain. It was snow/raining in Portland as I rode my bike to work today. Fortunately, Laura was kind enough to set out my ski underwear and I didn’t feel the cold much, but couldn’t feel my face at all after a few minutes.
I posted some images of Owen and Neko in the galleries. Neko is 1/2 Bernese Mountain Dog, 1/4 Greater Swiss, and 1/4 Great Pyrenees. She’s 9 weeks, 21 pounds and quite the charmer.
Preheat oven to 450
In a large mixing bowl, sift:
1 1/4 cups of AP flour
3 tsp double acting baking powder
1/2 tsp kosher salt
Thoroughly cut in 6 TBS of cold unsalted butter
Make a hole in the middle of the flour mixture
Pour in 1 cup cold whole milk, all at once into hole
Stir gently to bring mixture together, no longer than 50 seconds
Grease baking sheet with butter
Spoon big sticky globs of batter onto sheet, five biscuits total
Bake for about 14 minutes until lightly golden, checking after 12 minutes
Apple’s Software Updater kept wanting to install Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0; it was supposedly successfully installed five or six times by the point I started getting curious – just checked – and it still thinks it needs to be installed. Then I actually read the instructions and saw it must be run manually (Applications > Built-In Keyboard Firmware Update). I take things for granted too often with these MacinSteves.
removed the embedded youtube video because it pegs the cpu… don’t know why.

Crochety. But yeah.
I watch Anthony Bourdain No Reservations on the Travel Channel every week. I’ve got his books as well. On tonight’s episode, he returned to his old restaurant Les Halles to work a guest double on the sautee line, and convinced his friend Eric Ripert to join him, working the grill. I would have paid to have been dishwasher that night.
Garfield minus Garfield = brilliant
edit: I found the nagging word in the back of my mind I was looking for: angst
Moving old blog data went fairly well; WordPress is robust. I’m not sure if Zenphoto was the right choice to handle the photos yet. It will definitely take more time. I am thinking I need to script a way to change the file date of an image to match its EXIF data.. 10000 times.
After eight or nine years of blogging on mcmm.net with home-brewed code, I have finally decided to move on to WordPress. Let’s see how importing some of the older data goes. My photo gallery is migrating has been migrated to Zenphoto. /crosses fingers. The old site still works (for now) has gone away.
